THE STATE OF BLACK BRITAIN SYMPOSIUM 2011
Saturday 19th November
9:30am - 4:30pm
VENUE DETAILS TO BE ANNOUNCED
THEME:
THE BLACK FAMILY: STRONG TIES OR BROKEN BONDS?
The disturbing scenes of rioting in London and across many of the UK's
major cities has left many asking serious questions about the state of
the nation. Media commentators, faith and community leaders and business
leaders and the media have offered their analysis of what factors were
responsible - or purported to be responsible - for the scenes of
devastation witnessed on our television screens. At the outset of the
riots there were comments being made about the role - or lack of role -
and influence of the family.
The State of Black Britain Symposium will explore whether, as some
have argued, whether the scenes of devastation witnessed during the
week of rioting was as much to do with the demise of the family (and
community) as it was with an entrenched sense of social, communal and
political injustice.
We invite you to join us as leading figures within the UK's black
communities offer their view and perspectives around key issues related
the the black family. The symposium will be facilitated by the award
winning Broadcaster and presenter Henry Bonsu.
