THE STATE OF BLACK BRITAIN SYMPOSIUM - 'Travelling together, travelling farther ...'

Web-casts:
How should we define blackness in the 21st Century?: Live recording of a round-table discussion chaired by Dr Anthony Reddie, Reader in Black Theology, Queens Foundation, Birmingham & Editor, Black theology: An International Journal

For many blackness symbolises more than just skin colour. It embraces the experiences of other communities that have encountered or are encountering similar kinds of injustices to those experienced by black communities. As a political definition blackness therefore includes lesbian, gay, disabled and other communities that feel discriminated against. This round-table discussion explores whether the narrower or wider definition of blackness is more appropriate for the 21st Century, whether the two can be held in tension or whether there are other definitions of blackness we need to explore.
